Chapter Ten

Priscilla

The music unexpectedly faded to a short-lived silence. There were still the faint sounds of excitement coming from the backyard and Gemini yawning in quick succession like she was fighting a losing battle against sleep. I didn't blame her. It was getting late. By the time I stumbled back into the house, Whitney and Fallon had both already went upstairs to go to sleep.

"They are really going at it," Gemini said, staring through the window at the backyard. "I can't even wrap my head around it all."

"Jay has a way with women," I shrugged. I didn't really know how to explain it. Jay's charm put women in a trance and seemed to convince them to do things they wouldn't usually do. Case in point, she suggested to the two other girls outside that they should kiss. And they did it. And now, they were topless and putting on a show for Jay.

"Its crazy. Then again, maybe, I'm just jealous because I'm not getting any."

"Maybe," I giggled. "That's not really my thing."

Jay was drunk when she got the idea to direct her backyard porno. I wasn't interested in sticking around for all that. So, I left them to their own devices. I wouldn't shame anyone for letting go of their inhibitions and getting a little nasty, but it just wasn't my thing. I preferred that my intimate moments were actually intimate.

"Yea, at the very least I need to be indoors," Gemini laughed. "Something about being out in the elements makes me feel exposed and vulnerable. Not even in a good way."

Gemini and I talked while she waited for her Uber. I was happy that I left Jay outside with those other girls. It gave me the opportunity to get to know her. She was a sweet girl and funnier than expected. We shared some laughs and when I mentioned I didn't have anyone to go get my nails done with, Gemini suggested we go together.

"Text me when you get home," I told her while walking her to the car waiting for her at the end of the driveway.

"I will," she smiled. "And I'll get with you next week about our pedicures."

"Most definitely."

Watching the car drive away, I spotted something down the street. For a second, I thought I was seeing things. What were the odds I suddenly imagined seeing not only Marshawn's car parked down the street, but Marshawn hiding behind it?

"This girl has lost it," I sucked my teeth as I walked towards her. It seemed psychotic that she was staking out our place. And for what? She already knew what Jay was about. Had to suspect what Jay wasn’t spending her Saturday night reading Atomic Habits. Every weekend and most days in between were dedicated to hooking up with some random girl whose name she didn't know. That’s how it had always been. That’s why she didn’t want to be bothered with their relationship.

Her eyes got big when she realized I noticed her. She ducked down as if that would help.
